New BBS Comments

Postby James Plouf » June 10th, 2009, 10:59 am

By now you have had a few weeks to test drive the new BBS. I know -- change is tough.

Please share your comments on what you like and don't like about the new BBS.

Thanks,

My only real complaint is that the automatic login doesn't work. If it can't be made to work, could you extend the "logged in" time?

I didn't like it at first as it is more cumbersome and time-consuming, but I'm getting used to it and eventually finding my way around to what I want.

I like that no more "anonymous" postings are allowed, but I did note one the other day from a "guest," so if people can post as guests, then you haven't really gotten rid of anonymous. The only thing I really didn't like about the old BBS was all that flaming and offensive language. Maybe closer monitoring would have negated the need to revamp the BBS.

Also, in the switchover, I lost all my contacts/connections, though I did not have that many to lose, I will admit.

I had the same thought, but then I noticed that the "guest" posts I'd run across were anonymous posts that had been imported from the old BBS. I haven't noticed any new "guest" posts, so maybe the problem has been solved.

to update my earlier comment, I did go back in, and I did find my contacts were there. Not sure if I missed them the first time, or they just got put back in. Anyway, they're there, and I'm happy.

I agree that it takes a little getting used to, but I like the changes. It is flexible with a lot of new options. The Preview button nice to have... as well as the addition of the HTML features. And of course there are the "Smilies"! :D

Thanks!

How can I include my signature? Can't seem to find how to do it on this version.

Also, is there something to click to go back to the main travelwriters, com site like before? Can't find that either, though perhaps am just being blind!!!

Thanks!

Hi James,

I used to really enjoy reading the boards here. You created a great forum for travel writers. My main complaint now is that I have a hard time just skimming the latest posts/topics, since they're all buried in the sub-directories.

Am I missing something? Is there another way to see the latest topics added?

If not, I suspect I won't be visiting very often.

Jim, from the main BBS screen, select "View unanswered posts," "View new posts," or "View active topics." (I usually click "View active topics.")
