I suggest you find more updated topics to keep as sticky links. It seems all these "stickies" are from 2005 and 2006. Some of them have not been added to in almost two years so it seems like a waste to have them posted.

I think it would be really useful to have an A to Z listing of Travelwriters.com members or a generic "Member Profiles" tab that lists everyone.

I realise that there are thousands of writers registered on this site, but it would make it easier for prospective editors to find out more about the writers on this list and possibly contact them directly regarding work.... Perhaps members could be grouped by areas of speciality?

If there is already such a link (other than wading through all the BBS threads), please let me know.

Cheers
Kim

I would like to be able to delete some of the topics that are of no interest so I can focus on those I'm contributing to. Any way to do that?

I would love to see a preview before we post. Right now I am trying out how to link to my web sites in my signature and there is no way to do it except trial and error by posting time and again until I get it right.

Here goes another attmept.

Is it time to unstick some of the sticky topics? With a Search feature, most of the items at the top of the list would be easily found if/when needed.

This "suggestions" thread may be the only necessary Sticky in the current bunch?

Thanks,

Piper

Kim Wildman's suggestion of a members' list available to all is a good one. Check out Media Bistro's list of freelancers.

Agree with the many comments about 'anonymous'. I'm at a loss as to understand why you'd want to remain anonymous on a professional site like this. I've developed several friendships with people who participate on this site and we've helped each other with work opportunities and contacts. I'm certainly not going to contact a faceless 'anonymous' with a lead or job offer.

As for the blacklist - a great idea but a bit tricky - you'd have to have a grey list also. I've read negative feedback on this forum about certain publishing companies that I've only had positive experiences with, and vice versa; claims of being paid low when I've always known that company to well, and vice versa, so perhaps only those with negative comments are black-listed and the others grey-listed.

That might discourage people from joining and using their names (or their aliases).

Can we please have a topic called the 'love of travel' or something to that effect?

And a notice telling people to leave their cynicism at the door, precluding any negative discussion about work, rates, editors and so on? The topics would need to be confined to travel itself, and not destination-chat - not where to find the best hotel room or Calgary's best restaurants etc - but rather topics like why we love travel, how the nature of travel has changed, what's inspiring travelers these days, etc. These ideas are interesting and inspiring in themselves but they also help us to think about our readers more and the ways in which we research and write about travel.

Where's this coming from? I posted 'Wanted: travel insights and reflections' under 'Other' about a new creative project of mine where I'm seeking to create such a community for sharing ideas, feelings, and reflections on travel, and instead all I get are the same cynical travel writers harping on the way they do on every other thread about why I'm not paying people etc - it's rather sad, really.

Hi,

I'm quite new here so I'm just getting to grips with things. I've syndicated a few articles but can't see how to set the price for editors. It doesn't seem to happen automatically so how does that work?

Also, there is an option for England on the drop down destinations tab but not for Scotland. Why is that? I eventually posted my Scottish article under the Great Britain option but I almost missed that as the normal option is United Kingdom.

Regards,

Steve

Is there a bug in the system? The new means of logging on to TravelWrters.com with our email addresses means that no-one's handle or name appear with their posting, which is really very confusing and frustrating... Bring back the old system!
